Lisa is 1 and very sweet and calm. Lisa likes to sleep and to take naps swinging in a hammock.

Flora is 7 and was rescued as a puppy by my daughter Sofia from UNESP University in São Paulo, Brazil. She is very charming and adores playing football (soccer in the US) with us.

CK is more formally known as CK, The Weiner Dog Of Infinite Justice. While not engaged in the global war on terror (tm), CK just celebrated his fifth birthday. He enjoys amazingly long walks that tire out his owner, and while a good head rub hits the spot, nothing - and I mean nothing - is better than a rub on the belly.

Dog-lovers have taken 2.7 million working days off to care for their sick pets over the last two years, according to a survey on Thursday.

Dog owners are so concerned about their pooches' wellbeing that 55 percent admitted they paid more attention to sick pets than an ill partner.

I've always thought that most people either 1) already know exactly what breed of dog they want without care for what breed (s) may be better suited to their temperment or lifestyle or 2) know that they would go to the animal shelter to chose a dog...let me know if you think I'm wrong and that people most people make informed decisions rather than simply going with their gut.

We all love reunion stories...especially those that involve people and their pooches!

He was just a small, homeless pup that brought smiles to Marines at Camp Fallujah in Iraq as he stumbled around with his four oversized paws and silly doggy grin.

On Monday, the dog known now as "Lava" was reunited at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe with one of his rescuers, Lt. Col. Jay Kopelman, a U.S. Marine reservist with the Camp Pendleton-based 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

Kira is a four-or-so-year old Belgian Shepherd mix, adopted from the Oregon Humane society. A big girl -- 75 lbs. or so -- but calm and friendly. I've read that people are reluctant to adopt large, black dogs. Bah, humbug!
