It seems that loaning a pooch for a few hours or days is becoming more and more popular. These loaner pooches are not to be confused with loner pooches however (you know, the doggies that sit by themselves in the corner of the dogpark):

They get plenty of daily exercise and socialization, and a large percentage of them end up going home permanently with their borrowers.

The pooches are ever so like people though aren't they...workin' the system, doggies, w-o-r-k it!!

"When they go out on walks, they know the most direct routes to the nearest doughnut shops and hot dog stands," said Jill Killeen, spokeswoman for the hotels. "We've had to put them on diets, and now we send guests out with a pack of more appropriate doggie treats."

Nearly half of all pet owners would rather share the bed with their four-legged friend than with their partner. And, given the health benefits of keeping an animal, maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

It's a very sensitive subject for owners of obese pets. Just ask your friend with the "big-boned" dog about pet obesity! While you get hit with every excuse known to man and dog, think about this for a second: In the US, 25-30% of people and dogs alike are overweight.

It's time to feed pooch less, walk pooch more and teach the poor pooch to suck in.
